Hi there.
00:03
In this question, we are looking at physical changes and chemical changes.
00:08
So i want to start off by talking about how we can identify these two.
00:13
A physical change is any change in matter that does not produce a new substance.
00:26
And by new substance, i mean something with a different chemical formula.
00:30
Or as a chemical change, that involves a reaction, and we do get a new substance or substances, and these new substances have different chemical formulas and different properties.
01:04
So in our candle, we have two things going on.
01:08
First thing we have is solid wax is changing to liquid wax.
01:19
It is melting so melting means is going from a solid to a liquid well notice our substance is still wax all it's done is change state so that is a physical change because we have not produced a new substance it has merely changed state so changes in state are going to be physical changes because we still have the same substance.
01:52
All right, the second thing going on here is we are told that the wax combines with oxygen and we're producing carbon dioxide and water vapor.
02:14
Well notice the difference here in this one from the first one we looked at...
