to know which of the isotopes that are listed would be found in nature. We need to determine whether or not they are stable isotopes, as represented by the figure on page 66. If there is not a box that corresponds to a stable isotope for the element based upon its number of neutrons and protons, then we will assume if it's not in the figure, there's not a boxing, that location in the figure than it is not a stable isotope and is not found in nature. So we're here. We've got your opium 63 with a mass number of 1 62 So that corresponds to 99 neutrons. So we go to the graph 99 neutrons, 66 protons, and we do not see stable isotope this location. So this would not be stable or found in nature for the next one. We go to arsenic uh, 75 having 75 minus 33 42 neutrons. So we go to the table 42 neutrons, 33 protons. We do see that this is a stable isotope that would be found in nature. Next one is burying 1 12 so 1 12 minus 56 gives us 56 neutrons. There is no stable isotope with 56 neutrons and 56 protons in the table. The next one, then, is some unknown element. Uh, 88 88 is going to be radium, and there is no radium isotope with 172 neutrons. That is stable. This is way outside of the zone of stability. We have far too many neutrons for it to be stable.
