Let's talk about apoptosis.
00:07
So apoptosis comes from the ancient greek word, meaning falling off.
00:13
And basically, it's a form of program cell death.
00:17
And it occurs in multicellular organisms.
00:20
It's almost kind of like cellular suicide.
00:24
So if a cell has been damaged or it reaches the natural end of its usefulness of its life, it will trigger this event.
00:36
There are biochemical events that lead to cell changes and eventually cell death.
00:42
So some of these changes include blebbing, which i'll get to in a minute, cell shrinkage, nuclear fragmentation, chromatin condensation, and dna fragmentation, and also global mrna decay.
00:56
So this is an average process that happens in your body.
01:00
The average adult human loses between 50 and 70 billion cells each day due to this process.
01:08
So just to kind of walk through it, here's our cell with our nucleus, other organelles in there.
01:25
So apoptosis begins when the nucleus of the cell begins to shrink...
