Today we're going to talk about the difference between a climatization and evolution.

So a lot of biology students will get these two concepts confused, so we'll break it down here so we can better understand the difference between them.

At first glance, they both seem like methods of for animals to adapt to their environment, but they occur at very different scales and through different mechanisms.

A climatization is within an individual, whereas evolution occurs within populations.

A climatization also is a relatively shorter time span because it occurs within the individual, whereas evolution requires generations and generations of traits being inherited to offspring and those traits being selected through environmental pressures.

And another key difference is that climatization is not inheritable, whereas evolution is genetic space.

So those are inherited traits.

At a high level, acclimatization is essentially adaptation to new environments using existing capabilities.

So an example might be an animal that travels a bit higher up in altitude on a mountain, and thus its body produces more red blood cells to deal with the lowered oxygen.
