Hi there.
00:01
Today we're going to discuss epithelial cells.
00:04
So these are a type of cell found in animals that cover the outside of organs and also line the lumens of the organs.
00:12
They can either occur as a single layer, which is also called simple epithelial or multiple layers, and that forms a type of tissue called stratified epithelia.
00:26
And there are four main types of epithelial cells.
00:29
Squamous cells are a type of cell that kind of look a little bit irregular and flat, and they can occur either as a single layer, also called simple epithelia, as mentioned before.
00:44
And that type of single layer squamous cells aids in diffusion throughout the body.
00:50
So some examples of that are capillaries, the blood capillaries found throughout the body, or the avioli in lungs where gas extraneous.
00:59
Occurs.
01:01
And in the blood capillaries, that diffusion helps because that can aid in the exchange of waste and nutrients.
01:09
There also occur in stratified epithelia, so the multiple layers, in skin, particularly in the linings of the mouth and the vagina.
01:20
So the multiple layers helps to kind of protect those sensitive areas that are exposed to the external environment.
01:28
Next we have cuboidal cells, kind of hinted at by its name.
01:34
They're kind of cube -shaped, relatively cube -shaped as far as cells go...
