Why should you roll or belly-crawl rather than walk across a thinly-frozen pond?
This is because pressure is inversely proportional to area due to which walking exerts a higher pressure on the pond comparison to rolling or belly-crawling. The higher pressure exerted by walking or skating on the surface of the frozen pond can cause cracks or even break the thin surface of the ice. Hence, it is advisable to roll or belly crawl on a thin frozen pond.

in this podcast. We're looking at the topic of gasses, and we know that gasses are able to expand freely to fill the entire container as they have no fixed shape or volume. So what's important for this podcast is pressure. So the force acting paint unit area of a surface is called the pressure. And so if we have a thin frozen pond in this case, then I imagine that one should want to roll or belly crawl instead of walking because the area decreases on walking. So we know that pressure is inversely proportional to area of contact. So if we want to reduce the pressure, then we want to increase the area. So by lying down on the lake, you're gonna have a greater area and as a result, we will reduce the pressure. So less chance off ice breakage. Whereas if you were to walk, you would reduce your area and you would increase the pressure, increase the chances off icebreaking
