Hello and welcome.
00:02
We're looking at chapter 2, section 1, problem 3.
00:08
So here we're given a graph of sprint times, and we see as time has gone on, it almost looks like a staircase.
00:17
It's dropping in these steps over time.
00:20
And the question that asks us is, do you think that this sequence has a non -zero limit as t goes to infinity? so we're kind of looking at what happens as time goes on.
00:34
So we have a graph, what would happen in the future? so if you just have the graph in no context, there's definitely a downward trend, and we wouldn't really be able to tell if it would keep going down to zero and then flatten out or go past zero.
00:52
However, with the context, we can tell a lot more.
00:54
This is people running 100 meters.
00:56
So it is impossible for a human being to run 100 meters in zero seconds.
01:03
So that means, or in negative seconds for that matter, that means that this sequence has to have a non -zero limit.
01:13
So for the first question there, we could write, it is impossible to run 100 meters.
01:37
In zero seconds or less.
01:42
All right.
01:43
So that means that the limit has to be non -zero.
01:55
As time goes on, as t goes to infinity, the sequence of these world record times is going to, has to be non -zero...
