Resonance

Resonance refers to the phenomenon where a molecule can be represented by two or more valid Lewis structures, known as resonance structures. These structures differ only in the distribution of electrons, not in the arrangement of atoms. In a resonance hybrid, the actual electron distribution is an average of the contributing forms, leading to properties such as equal bond lengths even when individual structures suggest single and double bond differences.

Bond Order and Bond Length
