Suppose you started your own business and hired only family members. Why would this strategy be inefficient? Have you ever been involved in a situation where you believe that you experienced discrimination because of someone's taste or prejudices? Was it because of statistical discrimination? Suppose a car salesman charges a higher price to black customers than to white customers. Is this likely to result from discriminatory tastes or statistical discrimination? How would it change your answer if the salesperson were black? If people voted in national and local elections for only candidates of their own race, would this be inefficient? If so, how might the "market" for votes solve the problem? Many whites and males believe there is "reverse discrimination" and, as a result, they receive fewer opportunities than minorities and women. How can they believe this when the vast majority of studies show continuing discrimination against minorities and women? If a parent purchases a Barbie doll for a young daughter and a WWE wrestling doll for a young son, is this an act of pre-market discrimination?
