While job characteristics theory (Hackman & Oldham, 1976) is no longer used as a stand theory for job redesign in contemporary organizations, several of the components of the theory are still well-supported in research today. The theory proposes that 5 specific job characteristics (skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback) have a positive impact on work outcomes (employee motivation and performance). Which of these characteristics, if any, do you think may still be relevant in organizations today, particularly given the tumultuous change within the contemporary workplace? Explain why you think so, based on both the empirical research discussed in the article and your own personal observation in the workplace or school setting.
