Suppose you, and, Aristotle, Confucius, Sartre, Nietzsche, and Manning all have read this article. What do you think they would say about it and what implications it may have on their theories?
Match the philosopher to the following response:
1. Well, the answer depends on a rich understanding of the history and context of minority relations in America. Certainly, every student who is qualified and desires admission should be admitted, if possible. However, because of the complexities surrounding underrepresented student populations, some accommodation should be made for those students who come from families and neighborhoods that have not been privileged and who bring a rich diversity of perspective that benefits all students. The fact that these student populations need greater care because of historical injustice constitutes a higher obligation on the part of the college admissions officers. The problem is not so much Affirmative Action, but underfunded colleges that cannot admit all the qualified students who apply. Through some compromise, these diverse concerns should all be possible to accommodate.
