Texts: Read peers' response/explanation and then answer the prompt. Prompt to guide your response: Why is having a standardized nursing process important to the profession of nursing? Peer's explanation: The part of ADPIE that fascinated me was the diagnosis step. I've been lucky enough to have access to medical resources since I was a young child, and the detective work involved in a medical diagnosis is what inspired me to enter the healthcare profession. Until this program, I hadn't had much experience with nurses, and so this is the first time I've heard of a nursing diagnosis. It appears to me that a nurse's role in ADPIE/patient care is to create a nursing diagnosis, which differs from the medical diagnosis. A nursing diagnosis is focused on the problem/risk the patient faces, what it's caused by, and the evidence behind the rationale. I found this interesting because it helps both the healthcare provider and the patient. On the doctor's side, it allows them to judge patient/nursing concerns with more speed and efficiency, since we have essentially created a "cheat sheet" for them with our collective nursing diagnoses. On the patient's side, it lets them know exactly what their care team will be focusing on and why.
