Problem 5: The planetary gear system is used in car transmissions. There is a sun gear S, planet gears P, and the ring gear R. By locking (fixing/grounding) certain gears, you can have different gear ratios and car speeds.
a) If the ring gear is held fixed, i.e. R = 0, and the sun gear is rotated at ws = 5 rad/s, find the angular velocity, p, of the planet gears and the output shaft A.
b) If the sun gear is held fixed, i.e. S = 0, and the ring gear is rotated at wR = 5 rad/s, find the angular velocity, p, of the planet gears and the output shaft A.
c) If the output shaft is held fixed, i.e. Wa = 0, and the ring gear is rotated at WR = 5 rad/s, find the angular velocity, p, of the planet gears and the sun gear S.
d) What if the planet gears are held fixed, Wp = 0?
