Monotheists or Christians believe in a single God. We believe in one God who is all-knowing and all-powerful. Both Greco-Roman and our world had slaves American slaves were about race and Roman slavery took people as slaves from cities they conquered. They killed the men and kept the women, children, and older men. Those who were experiencing economic hardship were also taken as slaves.
One of the differences between the Romans and our world today is when hurt or upset, the Greco-Roman would tear (or rent) their clothing (Mark 14:63). In our world today we deal with our emotions in different ways. Some drink or do drugs while others withdraw from everyone and suffer in silence. In our world today we do not cast lots (Acts 1:26) to vote as they did in the Greco-Roman religion. Roman and Christianity have differences, but they also have similarities. Both cultures believe in speaking in tongues and both value honor, courage, and self-sacrifice. In Western society, everyone wants to be honest and not put to shame The Romans wanted the same thing.
