Texts: MSE552 INTERFACIAL THERMODYNAMICS - MAJOR ASSIGNMENT
An experiment was conducted with a composite material prepared by modifying laterite with alumina. To determine the effect of the ratio of alumina in the composite on the fluoride adsorption isotherm and kinetics, a test was conducted with a 2-gram composite of varying alumina ratios in a 50-mL solution initially containing 21.4, 42.1, 62.6, and 82.6 mg/L fluoride. The fluoride concentration variation with time was measured and tabulated:

Prepare plots of [F-] vs time on the same graph for the AlO additions. Determine the equilibrium concentration (C). Calculate the amount of fluoride adsorbed at time t (gt) and at equilibrium (qe). Prepare the Langmuir and Freundlich plots, calculate the constants, and comment on the effects of the alumina ratios on the applicability of the isotherms. Prepare the kinetics plots (PFO and PSO), calculate the constants, and comment on the applicability and effect of the alumina ratio on the kinetics.
