pax-6 is the master regulatory of eye formation in mice just like eyeless is the master regulatory of eye development in flies. Master regulators of eye development (Pax 6, eyeless proteins) have conserved structure between species.
Based on what we learned in class, if you were to create flies where you deleted the coding region of the eyeless gene and replaced it with the coding region of the pax-6 gene (but left the regulatory regions of eyeless intact, so it was now driving expression of pax-6), what would be the phenotype of these flies?
