Activity 8-1-Thermocouple Calibration
A millivolt generation instrument, without ice point compensation, can be used to provide thermocouple input signals for the calibration of temperature transmitters. The ambient temperatures are provided. Determine the \( \mathrm{mV} \) output to obtain the stated calibration point temperature. Use the thermocouple voltage table in the Appendix for the Type \( \mathrm{J} \) thermocouple and the thermocouple voltage table in the Appendix for the Type \( \mathrm{K} \) thermocouple.
Given a Type J thermocouple and an ambient temperature of \( 20^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \), answer the following questions.
1. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 0^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
2. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 100^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
3. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 200^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
4. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 300^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
5. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 400^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
Given a Type \( \mathrm{K} \) thermocouple and an ambient temperature of \( 26^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \), answer the following questions.
6. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 0^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
7. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 100^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
8. The calibration voltage input signal at \( 200^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) is \( \mathrm{mV} \).
