Detailed discussion of these steps TBD in class.
1. [1pt] Google the St Louis Economics Database (“Fred II”) and download the
excel monthly constant maturity 1-year (GS1) and
2. [1pt] monthly 10-year series (GS10).
3. [1pt] Similarly, google the Bureau of Labor Statistics (“BLS”) and create a
spreadsheet of the monthly all-urban CPI (“inflation”) index.1
4. [1pt] Download the nominal Case-Shiller index for the Los Angeles by similarly
obtaining the necessary data from a web-search (Standard and Poor’s or FRED
II).2
5. [1pt] Download the (not seasonally adjusted) monthly shelter component of CPI
for LA-Long Beach Anaheim.
6. [5pts] Place all 5 data sets in 5 separate Sheets within one Excel file. Rename the
sheets to match the content (e.g., GS1, GS10, etc.).
1 For simplicity, use the all-urban, not seasonally-adjusted, all items index.
2 SP/Corelogic now requires registration. If you do not want to do this, get the LA (not seasonally adjusted)
index from FRED II (google FREDII Case Shiller Los Angeles).
