Once inside its host cell, the nucleic acids of the virus direct the host cell to make multiple copies of the virus. There are several different routes to nucleic acid and whether the host cell has a nucleus or not (bacteriophages). One class of animal viruses is known as retroviruses. What is specific about retroviruses?
a. They contain DNA which is converted into RNA and incorporated into the host genome.
b. They carry special enzymes which convert the virus RNA into DNA, which allows it to enter lysogeny.
c. They carry the enzyme reverse transcriptase which can direct the host cell to make DNA out of the viruses RNA, which can become incorporated into the host genome.
d. They carry the enzyme reverse transcriptase which reverts the host cell to containing RNA only.
