The United Nations (U.N.) Security Council has the power to apply embargoes and sanctions such as:
- coercive efforts, economic warfare, preludes to war with authorization power to declare war.
- coercive efforts, restrictive procurement practices, to the authorization for use of bioweapons.
- trade restrictions, non-tariff barriers, voluntary restraint agreements, and use of military force.
- restrictive procurement practices and banning imports and/or exports, to use of military force.
- trade restrictions, and the complete banning of trade to construction of physical trade barriers.
