Photovoltaic panel (for generating a DC voltage), a DC/DC converter (for regulating the voltage coming from the photovoltaic panel), and an inverter (a DC/AC converter for generating an AC voltage) are used to form a photovoltaic system. In this project, you are going to simulate a complete photovoltaic system.
Instructions:
1. Read the "DC DC converter and DC AC converter" document. Identify the buck converter.
2. Consider a photovoltaic panel with an output voltage of 18 V.
3. Design a buck converter considering an input voltage of 18 V and an output voltage of 12 V.
4. Design a DC/AC converter where the input voltage is 12 V and the peak output voltage is 12 V with a frequency of 60 Hz.
5. Insert a transformer for stepping up the voltage from 12 V to 170 V peak, 60 Hz.
6. Insert a 100 g resistor as a load.
7. Simulate the complete circuit. You can use PSIM. In PSIM, you can select a predefined photovoltaic panel.
8. Get the load voltage and load current. Analyze their THD and Power Factor.
9. Investigate the IEEE 519 standard. Compare your results with those limits imposed by the standard. Give some recommendations to fit the standard limits.
10. Change the photovoltaic panel output voltage to 20 V. Your load AC voltage should always be at 170 Vac and 60 Hz.
11. Write your final report considering the example. In this case, your final report will contain simulation results.
