Q1, part b) In the production of baker's yeast, a continuous rotary vacuum filter is used
to filter 120 kg/h of a fermentation broth containing 40% yeast, 15% solids and water.
To improve filtration rates, a filter aid is added to the rotary filter at a rate of 10 kg/h.
All the yeast is separated in the product stream as outlined in the schematic below.
The product leaves at 80kg/h and consists of 80% yeast and the remainder is water.
