Let S be the event that a randomly selected college student has taken a statistics course, and let C be the event that the same student has taken a chemistry course. Suppose P(S) = 0.39, P(C) = 0.26, and P(S ∩ C) = 0.16. Find the probability that a student has taken statistics, chemistry, or both.

1. Identify which of the following characteristics is from which disease and explain why each occurs (9 points) V = Venous Insufficiency A = Peripheral Arterial disease 1. edema- V Due to the incompetence of the venous system, the fluid that would be redirected back to the heart in a normal function venous system is compromised. Therefore the veins do not adequately return blood to the heart from the lower extremities. It is recommended to wear compression stockings to help facilitate fluid back to the heart and reduce edema. 2. brown discoloration - V Brown discoloration can come from venous insufficiency specifically a process called stasis dermatitis. This usually occurs above the ankle at the medial malleolus. The lack of blood/fluid flow back to the heart causes the venous side to become congestion specifically in the lower extremities. When this occurs an inflammation response takes place and cells are released to the area. This causes a red-brown appearance in my patients' lower extremities. The built up pressure in the lower extremities can cause extravasation of red blood cells which activates metalloproteinase to cause the inflammation reaction. 3. pallor - A This is due to the reduction in blood flow to the extremities that increased the oxygen demand. The incomplete blockage of plaque has caused a decrease blood flow needed. The decrease in blood supply to the area will have less blood flow thus causing the pallor. 4. varicose veins - V Usually the greater saphenous vein is the main vein targeted however it is possible to see varicose veins of the lesser saphenous vein. Varicose veins occur due to incompetent valves from an increase in the capillary pressure. The valve does not fully close thus allowing blood to go backward causing the appearance of the varicose vein. Varicose veins can be best seen when the patient is standing due to the

6. For a one-dimensional system, a transformation of variables, (q,p) ? (Q, P), is performed such that $Q = q^k p^l$; $P = q^m p^n$; where k, l, m and n are real constants. (a) How are k, l, m, n to be chosen in order to make the transformation canonical? (b) Which (canonical) transformation comes out in particular for m = 0? (c) Determine the type-1 generating function F?(q, Q) to produce such canonical transformation in (a).
