Richard (a Mexican and African American gay male) loves his new job at A Better Life Center, since starting 2 months ago all the clients he’s worked with have achieved successful resolution with their presenting issues in counseling. These beginning experiences have reconfirmed his beliefs about his ability to work with any client, he sees all clients as unique individuals and allows them to teach him who they are (culture, orientations, beliefs, etc.) and he works with them from there. With this success he is now struggling with a new client he met with today, he isn’t quite sure if and how he will be able to work with this client successfully. The client is Debra, a White heterosexual, Christian, upper-class female; during the session she identified her presenting issue and some of her beliefs that were totally counter to his personal beliefs/morals/values.
What is the issue(s) (there can be more than one) in the scenario? Read the ethical standards from NOHS to find out.
