3) (7 points) This design has two wooden beams.
Assume that the supports only provide vertical
forces. There is a bolt at B going through both
beams. The bolt has washers (thin metal disks
with a hole in the middle), top and bottom. We
do not want the wood to be deformed by the
washers. The allowable tensile stress for the
bolt is 21 ksi and the allowable bearing stress for
the wood is 4 ksi. Size the following: a) the
diameter of the bolt, and b) the outer diameter of the washer. You may assume that the hole in the
washer is the same size as the bolt. Your company does not want to pay for custom sizes, so you
may only size in 1/8 inch increments. Do not just round, decide if you should go up or down.
