Determination of the equilibrium constant as a function of temperature. Fill in the table and graph In Keq vs. 1/T (or use a spreadsheet)
Temp. Temp. A K
([l) [1] (I-] mol/L mol/L mol/L
1/T In Ke 1/K
The equilibrium constant is related to the temperature by the equation equation3. This equation has the form of y=mx + b, with x = 1/T, the slope m = -H/R, and the intercept b = S/R. With this in mind, on the graph paper or using a spreadsheet, graph In Kq (y-axis) vs. 1/T (x-axis) over the range of data gathered. From the graph (a spreadsheet can easily calculate these values), determine the slope and intercept and calculate H and S, recalling the slope = -H/R and the intercept = S/R. Also, calculate G from your value of In K. Reference 1 reports values of Ho = -17.0 kJ/mol and S = -0.6 J/Kmol. Compare your results and attempt to account for differences.
