Randy Wheeler, 52 years old, was admitted with a diagnosis of cirrhosis related to chronic alcoholism.
He is complaining of his abdomen being tight and distended, which is due to ascites. He also complains
of shortness of breath and restlessness this morning. His morning vitals were as follows: temperature,
99.2°F (37.3°C); pulse, 102 beats/min; respirations, 36 breaths/min; and blood pressure, 138/96 mm Hg.
The vital signs were consistent with previously recorded vitals. When the physician made rounds, he in-
formed you that he would be back in 30 minutes to perform an abdominal paracentesis.
