Label the tissues. When you think you have them correctly matched, ask your instructor to check your work. Now look at Figure 5-4 below.
a. Even though this also is a photo of a trachea and contains the same tissues listed above, the photo looks quite different.
b. Figure 5-3 shows a transverse or cross-section of the trachea. Figure 5-4 is a photo of a longitudinal section. If you need to, review anatomical sections in Lab 1.
c. The staining in Figure 5-4 also is different. Therefore, you have to learn to identify tissues by their characteristics, not their color.
