This 32-year-old female patient has severe, debilitating endometriosis with very painful and heavy periods, chronic pelvic pain, and pain during sex. Conservative treatment with pain medications and hormonal therapy has failed. The patient was taken to the OR for a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. While in recovery, the patient developed symptoms of anaphylactic shock, most likely caused by the preoperative antibiotic Cefotetan. The patient was reintubated(endotracheal) and was transferred to the surgical intensive care unit. She was mechanically ventilated for only a few hours, recovered with no additional complications, and was discharged home.
