This assignment is intended to act as a compare and contrast activity. You will need to read pages 130 - 150 and 160 - 167 from Chapter 6 of your textbook, What Color is Your Parachute, and complete the 7 Stories (Petal Three) and salary exercises (Petal Five). Compare and contrast the information that you gained from online resources to the exercises in your textbook. For this assignment, use and make reference to what you learned from the textbook, online resources, activities, class discussion, and personal insight. Although it's not required for this class, I highly recommend that you complete the entire Flower exercise from the textbook (pages 97 - 187). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (4 points) Describe and discuss what you learned about yourself in terms of your knowledge, skills, abilities, and how you have developed these through academic preparation, experiential learning, and work history. Be sure to specify what you have learned from your major in terms of transferable and special knowledge skills. Also, discuss your top 2 stories from the 7 Stories exercise using the analysis questions for each story (goals, obstacle, action steps, outcome, etc.) found on pages 134 – 150 in your textbook. Is there a connection between these stories and your Holland codes/Personality codes? Integrating Your Personal Self-Assessment (4 points) Analyze each of the areas of self-assessment (interests, skills, values, personality preferences) in terms of your priorities. To better understand your own career development, discuss how you would integrate these areas of assessment together. To meet your career needs, what resources may be helpful to you, what obstacles/challenges may you encounter? Also, discuss the transferable skill, work-related values, and patterns that you identified with the salary exercise and the 7 Stories exercise and how they compare to those you identified with the online resources. Future Career Exploration and Goals for Professional Development. (2 points) Consider your "next steps" based on your own career assessment. Which types of career experiences and opportunities for learning are most important for you to have next? Which sets of knowledge and skills do you want to focus on for further development? How might you go about this? Professionally and personally, what do you see happening 5 years down the road? How about 20 years down the road?
