VI. Analysis
POST-LAB QUESTIONS: You may write your answers with a minimum number of 3-5 sentences.
1. What is a combustion reaction? Define heat of combustion.
2. Write the balanced chemical equation for the combustion of ethanol, propanol and butanol.
3. What color did the alcohol lamp exhibit? Discuss the importance of complete combustion in obtaining accurate results. How would incomplete combustion affect the calculated heat of combustion?
4. What is the relationship between the number of carbon atom per alcohol molecule and the heat of combustion? Compare your calculated heat of combustion with the standard enthalpy of combustion?
5. Identify possible sources of error in the experiment and steps on how you can prevent it from happening.
VII. Conclusion
