Test 11 (Fall 2011)
EENG 0559
This is an open-book, open-note, take home test. This test should not be considered as a team effort. Each student is
responsible for his her own work, and as such collaboration is not allowed. The number of points for each problem is
shown in parenthesis. You must show all work to receive full credit.
Problem 1
Consider the multi-scatterer target shown below consisting of two identical flat plates connected along a shared edge.
Radar frequency is 10GHz. The angle between the plates is $\theta_0$. In the figure, OP=4.
a. Show your hand calculation to find the expression for the individual RCS of the two flat plates?
b. Show your hand calculation to find the expression for the effective RCS, $\sigma_{eff}$ as a function of viewing aspect
angle, $\phi$.
c. Assuming that the dimension of each single plate is 30cmx30cm, in Matlab sketch the effective RCS of this
multiple-scatterer target as a function of viewing aspect angle for the following three cases on the same plot
i. The angle between the plates is $\theta_0=180^\circ$
ii. The angle between the plates is $\theta_0=178^\circ$
iii. The angle between the plates is $\theta_0=170^\circ$
d. What is the value of the average RCS for the three cases in c)?
