7. In order to study the effect of incentive value on motivation, a researcher randomly assigns
participants to one of three groups. Group one receives no incentive for performing a task. Group
two receives a small incentive for performing a task. Group three receives a large incentive for
performing a task. Results of the study appear in the table below. The scores represent the
motivation of each participant, with higher scores indicating greater motivation.
For each group, compute all of the components necessary to compute the F-test for a one-way
ANOVA using the data in the table below. Look up F-critical in the F-table and decide if any of the
groups are significantly different from one another. Use $\alpha = .05$. Complete an ANOVA Table. Use
the ANOVA flowchart as a guide.

Question Answer
What value did you get for F-observed? 7A
What is F-critical for this study? 7B
What is your conclusion regarding the F-Test? 7C
Check one:
$\Box$ The F-test was significant. There is a
significant effect of incentive on
motivation
$\Box$ The F-test was not significant. There is no
significant effect of incentive on
motivation
Double-check your
computations.
