What is the etiology of the offender and why do you think so? (i.e., where does it come from? What historical information may have led to the manifestation of the behavior?)
Is the sex act criminal or deviant in each case study? Explain why.
Based on the Static-99, what do you predict is the risk of the offender reoffending in each case study. Explain how you came to your conclusion.
Rocky is a 45-year-old Caucasian living in a small town in
Illinois. He’s been married and divorced twice and is
currently living alone. He has one prior arrest and
conviction for a sexual assault charge where he had non-
consensual sex with his second ex-wife while she was
asleep. They subsequently divorced. He was released
from jail 18 months ago. He frequently goes to the local
drugstore and spends time watching women as they shop
for greeting cards. The staff of the drugstore all report that
he's friendly and easygoing, but he visits frequently, and
the fact that he doesn't always buy something while he’s
there makes the staff uneasy. One day, after a young
woman purchased a few things from the drugstore, she
returned to speak to the manager. She told the manager
that while she was loading her car, she found a wet, sticky
substance resembling semen wiped on the back of her
shirt. A review of the surveillance tape showed Rocky
walking by her while she was looking at the greeting cards,
and it appeared as though he touched her as he walked
by, but she did not appear to have noticed or felt him touch
her at that time.
Eddie Herndon
Eddie is a 42-year-old Caucasian man living in
Washington, DC. Eddie would describe himself as
heterosexual, but he would also have sex with other men if
the situation was presented. Eddie has long worked in
clothing stores as a career. He prefers to work in women's
clothing stores instead of men's. Eddie frequents a sex
club where he can engage in sexual fantasy and sexual
action with other men and women. During these visits, he
will dress provocatively as a woman, and he describes this
as necessary for his sexual satisfaction. Eddie does not
consider himself transgender and would argue that he is a
man who simply appreciates the feel and look of women’s
clothes on his body. When he dresses in women's clothing,
he can easily pass for a woman, according to the people
who know him.
