Regression Project
You will create a report on a topic of your choice, preferably one that relates to your
degree and/or interests. The report should be visually interesting and have appropriate
graphs and statistics and important or interesting highlights.
The details of the project are below:
• Find two variables that you think might have a correlation. Find, or create by
distributing a survey, a paired data set for the two variables. Why is this data
important or interesting?
• Create a scatterplot. Does the graph show a linear, quadratic, or other polynomic
relationship between the variables? Does the data have an exponential or
logarithm relationship?
• Find the value of $r^2$. Interpret the meaning $r^2$ specifically for your
data
• Find the equation of the regression function and graph the function on your
scatterplot.
• Use the regression function to make a prediction for some value in the scope of
your data. Do you think this is a good prediction?
• Use the regression function to make a prediction for some value NOT in the
scope of your data. Do you think this is a good prediction?
The report must be submitted as a formal paper in paragraph form, with an introduction
that discusses the topic and project, a body that answers all assigned questions, and a
conclusion that discusses the results. There is no length requirement as long as all parts
and questions are answered. Charts and graphs should be embedded within the report.
Raw data should be included at the end in an appendix
