Research Scenario: Matijczak et al. (2023) was curious: Does interacting with a dog have an impact on anxiety for adults? To study this, researchers used a sample of N = 30 adults. After a stress-inducing activity, the sample interacted with a dog for a short period of time. Then, the sample completed the State/Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and had M = 36 on anxiety. For the general population of adults who did not interact with a dog, scores on the STAI Scale form a normal distribution with µ = 42. On the STAI, the higher the score, the more anxiety an individual has. After conducting a two-tailed test using 0.05 significance level, the researchers calculated t = -2.25 and d = 0.32 for this sample.
