1 - In a double-pipe countercurrent heat exchanger feedwater heater, the inner pipe has vapor
water at 250°C with a mass the rate of 10 kg/s is preheated to 500°C by air from 1200°C flowing
at the mass flow rate of 15 kg/s. The water flows inside the copper tubes ($d_i$ = 8 mm, $d_o$ = 10
mm), and the air flows in the outer tubes ($d_i$ = 50 mm, $d_o$ = 40 mm). The length of the heat
exchanger is 5 m. There are no fins inside or outside the tubes, and there is no fouling.
a) Determine the air outlet temperature, the overall heat transfer coefficient based on the
outside tube diameter, and the true mean temperature difference for heat transfer.
