2) Polymorph screening of a given API showed the existence of two Polymorphs (Form 1 and Form 2). The solubility of these two polymorphs in acetone can be represented by the following relationship:
Form 1: $C_{eq} = 12e^{0.05T}$
Form 2: $C_{eq} = 3e^{0.075T}$
where the temperature T is given in Celsius and the solubility $C_{eq}$ is in mg/ml.
a. In the same graph, plot the solubilities for both polymorphs. Do not sketch, plot using a graphing program. For your plot choose a temperature range that could reasonably be used for a pharmaceutical crystallization.
b. Determine the transition temperature between Form 1 and Form 2.
c. Based on your graph and the notes from the class, design a crystallization process for this API. Explain what type of crystallization (cooling, anti-solvent or evaporative) you would use in your process and give reasons for your answer.
