*Why am I tossing unfamiliar chemical acronyms at you? Many of you are going on to further science courses. If you see these wacky names in biochem, I don't want you to choke up on a problem you absolutely know how to do because the names look unfamiliar! A lot of later chemistry (and chem applications elsewhere) is just gen chem concepts applied to bigger, fancier molecules. Not all of it, but a lot of it. End of the day, this is no different than A --> B + C; the variables are just named differently.
For those who are curious, this reaction is a step in glycolysis, the breakdown of glucose in cells to generate energy. F-1,6-BP is fructose-1,6-bisphosphate, DHAP is dihydroxyacetone phosphate, and G3P is glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. Your cells are busy doing this right now. Note that this particular step is unfavorable but can be made favorable through controlling concentrations of products and also...this is just one step in series of reactions that are overall favorable energetically, many of which are coupled to one another.
