Pressure vessels (PV) are common equipment in petrochemical industry.
Design and operations of the vessels are regulated and hence PV need to
be designed in accordance to accepted standards. You are required to
design a pressure vessel to be used by a chemical processing plant. The
required specifications of the PV are included in Table Q5. PV is to be
designed with length/diameter ratio, L/D=3 and welding efficiency, E=1
with fully radiographic examination. Assume design volume is 1.2 working
volume.
a. Propose a design of horizontal PV by selecting suitable head as per
ASME VIII Div 1 guidelines,

b. Two 8-inch nozzles, one for air inlet and the other for air outlet, of SA
106 GR B material are required for the PV. Propose a design of the
nozzles.
