The electromagnetic spectrum shapes how we experience and feel the world around us and lays the framework for the entire universe. The specific area of the EM spectrum I will be focusing on is radio waves. Radio waves have been an invaluable discovery for humanity, allowing various forms of communication to arise. It's the reason television, radio stations, radios, computer networks, the internet, and more exist. It has allowed humans to advance and be interconnected like never before. However, I'd like to focus on a more specific usage of radio waves advancing humanity, in astronomy. Scientists use radio waves to study faraway astronomical objects, as radio waves can penetrate the Earth's atmosphere and cloud cover, allowing telescopes to work on the surface, as well as work at any point in the day. Radio waves can provide more information depending on the circumstance and allow scientists to find more distant objects. Radio astronomy has provided extremely crucial information in forming theories about the universe, such as the cosmic microwave background, which is widely thought to be proof of the Big Bang. It has also discovered many new types of astronomical objects, such as pulsars, the remnants of supernovas.
