STUDIO ASSIGNMENT
A polyamide flat-belt drive system is being considered for a lathe. The input motor shaft speed (at
the driver pulley) is 3600 rpm, driver pulley is of diameter \$4.5\" (and of width to be determined
from the solution to the current problem), driven shaft requirement is 1440 rpm, power to be
transmitted has been estimated to be 1 hp, and center-line distance is 10". Slight excursions from
nominal load are expected due to vibrations and shock loading.
Select a flat belt for this application, using a service factor of 1.1 for excursions from the nominal
load and a design factor of 1.3 for other exigencies.
