This is one of three assignments this semester where you will be imagining different aspects of a television
series you are proposing to reboot. Please look at the assignment guidelines for all three essays prior to
beginning the first paper.
Your task is to use an existing TV show to imagine how you might create a reboot of this show. Examples of
shows with existing reboots include One Day at a Time, Full House, Will & Grace, Queer Eye, Charmed, The
Connors, Magnum PI and more. Imagining a reboot involves thinking through things like: how to update a show
while maintaining narrative continuity with the past series (or how to offer a compelling break with the prior
continuity); establishing what about the show's original premise makes it warrant an entire new series; how to
bind multigenerational viewership to its this content; identifying what aspect of the aesthetic qualities of the
show (form, mise-en-scene, and/or tone) would change from the original; addressing a historical lapse of time
(from the original); and, adjusting to changes in prevailing television norms.
