Part IV
A Skew That's New
A mass ($M_1$) is attached to another mass ($M_2$) via a nonelastic massless string. The string runs
over a frictionless pulley such that $M_2$ is hanging above the ground. $M_1$ sits on a ramp. $M_2$ starts to
move down. Both masses accelerate at the same rate.
Assume:
\begin{itemize}
\item $M_1$ has a mass of $m_1$
\item $M_2$ has a mass of $m_2$
\item The string is not stretchy
\item The ramp and block have $\mu_s$ and $\mu_k$
\item The ramp forms angle $\theta$ with the
horizontal
\end{itemize}
Determine:
The magnitude of acceleration ($a$) of $M_2$ (in
terms of $m_1$, $m_2$, $g$, $\mu_s$, $\mu_k$, and $\theta$).
