For the essay, you must answer the following
questions:
Sean and Denise come to your office
complaining that their six-year-old son,
Bradley, shows signs of being both belligerent
and depressed. They also say that he engages
in antisocial behaviors (relative to his age).
When you ask them some questions as part of
your assessment, you realize that each parent
differs in parenting style: Sean is
authoritarian, and Denise is permissive. After
the session, you have decided that you will
put into writing information about parenting
styles that you think will help them. In your
writing, you will cover the following topics:
• What each parenting style is -
authoritarian, authoritative, permissive,
and uninvolved - and how that affects the
way parents raise their children.
• What the short-term and long-term
consequences are for each style.
• The effects of growing up with parents who
constantly disagree with each other.
• What these parents can do to improve
their (and their son's) situation.
• What these parents can do to encourage
empathy and prosocial behavior in their
son.
