Yes, I would 100% recommend gastric bypass surgery. This article is vague and focuses on one aspect of the surgery. However, when making a life altering decision like this, you have to think about if the benefits outweigh the risks.
1. What factors (if any) would you consider in making such a recommendation?
There are a ton of factors I would consider prior to making this recommendation. What is their current lifestyle? What type of weight loss programs have they tried? How old are they? What is their current health? Mental health evaluation.
1. Let's say a patient saw this article and decided to get gastric bypass. You were asked to educate the patient on the risks / benefits of gastric bypass. What would you tell them?
I would educate the patient about the procedure and what to expect. I would educate the patient about what their diet will consist of after the procedure because head hunger is a thing, and the patient will be dependent on supplements for the rest of their life. I would also speak to ongoing therapy because there is a high rate of trading one addiction for another. Having bypass surgery is a very big major decision and life does not look the same after the fact.
