both anti-A and anti-B antibodies.
If blood is transfused into someone possessing the antibodies to that type of blood, the
immune system will attack the foreign red blood cells. Because type 0 blood has no antigens on
red blood cells, it will not cause an agglutination reaction no matter which antibodies the
patient's blood has. Therefore it can be safely given to any blood type and is called the
univeral donor. AB blood, on the other hand, has neither anti-A or anti-B antibodies, so it can
safely receive blood of any type.
