Hey everyone! My name is Amanda, and it’s great to meet you all. I hope you’re enjoying your summer while continuing your studies and taking care of yourselves. :) 1) Currently, I am at Mercer working toward completing my Associate’s degree in Nursing. Becoming a nurse has been a goal of mine for a very long time, but things have been challenging along the way. Between personal struggles and family responsibilities, it’s been hard to keep moving forward sometimes, but I am back now and working toward getting into the nursing program as soon as possible. I’m excited to continue on this path because I want to be able to help others and give back to my community. 2) I am not really familiar with literature, especially American literature, because I grew up reading in my home country before coming to America. I used to love reading when I was younger, but since coming here, I haven’t had much time to read for pleasure. Most of my reading and analyzing now happens in school, especially in my classes at Mercer. I mostly work and take care of my kids, and that takes up a lot of my time, but I’m grateful to have the opportunity to continue my education. I am hoping that this class will help me reconnect with reading and inspire me to learn something new about literature, particularly stories about Monsters and how they might connect to real life. I also hope this class will help me strengthen my reading and writing skills, which will support me in school and in my future nursing career. 3) I’m not really a horror film watcher. I do not like scary movies at all. I am more into romance, comedy, and life story movies, which I know sounds like a typical mom (haha), but those kinds of films help me relax after a long day. I can’t really name a favorite horror film because I avoid watching them, but I do like mystery crime shows and movies, especially the ones on Lifetime or LMN. I like stories that have a mystery but aren’t too scary, and I find it interesting to watch how people’s stories unfold and how people think.
