For this assignment, you will practice decomposing problems into small enough steps to make them something a computer program can help solve. This is not as easy as it sounds. Remember that computers are not smart. The most difficult part of programming is how to break a problem down into such simple steps that even a computer can understand it.
In this homework, you will practice thinking about and decomposing a problem into such small steps. You will first create a concept map to be a visual representation of your understanding of the problem. Then you will create a flow chart that will solve the problem in steps similar to how a computer would go about solving it.
Please do not underestimate the amount of effort this assignment should take. In class, the concept maps and flow charts we looked at were pretty basic and were quickly whipped up. For this assignment, your work should show substantial thought and complexity. Also, remember that concept maps and flow charts should look different from one another. If they look identical, that should be a warning sign to you that something's not quite right.
