Question 9

Cooter is standing statically on the force platform in-lab with both legs (in-line with the shoulder,
nothing crazy!) and you want to find the force on the right achilles tendon (while bearing weight on
both legs). Cooter has a mass of 58 kg. The horizontal (mediolateral) distance between his right foot
and his CoP is 5.2 cm and the horizontal (mediolateral) distance between his left foot and his CoP is
19.3 cm. On his right foot, his achilles tendon is at 83.4 degrees from the horizontal and inserted on
the calcaneous 5.7 cm (anterioposterior) away from the ankle. The CoP is 9.4 cm [anterioposterior)
in-front of the ankle (i.e. toward the toes). Find the force (N) on his right achilles tendon. (Hint: It
might help to draw an overhead view of the CoP and the feet on the ground to place the distances
appropriately as a set up step) Assume $\sum \tau = 0$, $\sum F = 0$.
Round answer to 1 decimal.
